Rauschenberg Captiva Adaptation Plan
The Rauschenberg Residency – A Creative Sanctuary on Captiva Island
Captiva, FL
The Rauschenberg Residency is a world-renowned creative haven welcoming artists of all disciplines to live, work, and innovate. Situated on Robert Rauschenberg’s historic property on Captiva Island, Florida, the residency reflects nearly four decades of the artist’s life and work. The 20-acre property includes an 8,000-square-foot studio designed by Rauschenberg in 1992, as well as a collection of historic homes and studios, each imbued with the island's tranquility and the legacy of artistic exploration.
The Rauschenberg Foundation embarked on the RRF Captiva Adaptation project to ensure the continued vitality of this historic site for future generations. SCCS Group contributed to this transformative effort, overseeing updates across eleven existing structures of varying age and size, along with the construction of a new 6,000-square-foot facility.
Key components of the project included:
Architectural and Structural Rejuvenation: Restoring finishes and reinforcing structural elements to preserve the site’s historic character and integrity.
MEPS Upgrades: Modernizing mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and safety systems to enhance functionality and sustainability.
Grounds Preservation: Protecting and enhancing the natural landscape to maintain the serene environment that inspires creative work.
Through thoughtful planning and meticulous execution, SCCS Group ensured the Captiva property remains a vibrant and welcoming space for artists to draw inspiration, connect with their craft, and contribute to Rauschenberg’s enduring vision of creativity and community engagement.
